East European Studies provides its students with knowledge of Eastern Europe. The advanced graduate degree program teaches the necessary skills for employment by public and private organizations in or concerning the region and also for further scientific work.
The program consists of three different components:
The complete master program accounts for 120 ECTS credits.
Tuition fees per year of study: 5,950 € (plus Freie Universität Berlin university fees of 117,40 €)
Costs arising from the obligatory in-house classes must be paid by the students themselves (travel expenses, room and board).
East European Studies has been designed as a two-year full-time study program. In the past, most of our students successfully managed to combine their studies with the obligations of a full-time job.
East European Studies offers a virtual exchange option with the Aleksanteri Institute (AI) in Helsinki. One of our modules may be substituted with up to two online modules offered by Aleksanteri Institute (depending on module length and credits).
Without knowledge of at least one East European language access to the different mind-sets and cultures within Eastern Europe is relatively difficult. Thus, basic linguistic proficiency in one of the national languages of Eastern Europe is an asset.
Here are the official regulations (Please note: There are currently only German versions available):
In Germany, in-house classes are recognized as "Bildungsurlaub". Tuition as well as all other costs incurred concerning studying can be claimed in your tax declaration.
After you completed East European Studies, you become part of our alumni network. You continue to receive our newsletter with news about the program as well as articles on the region. And, of course, you stay in contact with all the people you met during your time as an East European Studies student.
