The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) is a nonprofit, non-political, scholarly society. Scholars organized here are dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about the former Soviet Union (including Eurasia) and Eastern and Central Europe.
One of the core activities of the Association is the annual national convention. Held in the fall, the convention takes place each year in a different city and is generally hosted by one of the Association's regional affiliates. This national forum makes possible a broad exchange of information and ideas, stimulating further work and sustaining the intellectual vitality of the field. This year the convention takes place in Los Angeles, California, from November 18 to 21. The general theme of the 2010 convention is "War and Peace".
